Geology is the study of the Earth and it really ROCKS! We’ll have fun learning about the rock cycle, natural disasters, weather, caves, and lava. Who doesn’t want to learn about lava and caves? Labs, games, models, and slinky fun will be used to enable a deeper understanding and connection to the world we live in. No class will be without engaging, hands-on activities that connect and instill understanding. In this class, we’ll embrace all the messy and exciting projects!
This is a fun class to teach and learn about because our area has so many opportunities for field trips available. Email the teacher for some great suggestions.
This year-long course is geared to jr. high and high school. Homework is geared to be about 3-4 hours per week. This Course provides 2 credits; one for book work and one for lab. There is no lecture component of this class.
Class time will consist of a hands-on experience, an explanation and a review of the textbook which will need to be read at home, along with going over chapter review assignments, done at home and reviewed in class. Cumulative quizzes will be given in class every three weeks to keep topics fresh in mind. There will be a final given at the end of the semester over the topics covered. The tests are taken directly from homework assignments, and are open note. Homework assignments should be done in a composition book, or kept in order in a folder so that they can be referred back to. Both homework and tests are specific to the book being used by the student.
The in class activities are the heart of this class and will spark a love and understanding of science forever.
