This is a FUN year-long introduction to Elements and Principals of Art, with a hands-on project each week. The first semester we’ll focus on 7 elements of art value, texture, space, color, shape, form, and line. The second semester we’ll focus on 7 principals of art unity, balance, proportion, emphasis, pattern, movement, and variety. We’ll play with a variety of mediums; clay, fabric art, paint, pencils, and mosaic to name a few. The skill level of the art project is dependent on student’s ability. In class we’ll do a brief introduction to an element of art, then we will create a piece of art using that element as our focus. There will be no tests, but the last class will be an “artists’ exhibition” having each student pick their 3 favorite pieces to display and discuss. We welcome parents to this exhibit and let each student have a time to shine.
Required materials pencil case for holding art supplies, art book minimum of 30 sheets size 11×15 or larger; designed for watercolor and other wet techniques aka Mixed Media, pencil and eraser
There is no homework unless a piece needs finished. There are no tests.
There is no prerequisite. The semesters can be taken independently but are so hand in hand they are recommended together. First semester is not a prerequisite for second semester.
