There is something special about a quilt made completely by hand. The artist puts their heart, soul, and time into each stitch. This is something that a sewing machine can never replicate! During this course, students will learn the beautiful art of hand sewing and quilting and will create 4 modern mini-quilts for the first semester and one larger quilt top for the second semester.
First semester projects will include:
-new improvisational hand sewing techniques
-design practice in composition and understanding of color
-creating a quilt sandwich
-hand quilting and finishing techniques
Second semester projects will include:
-sewing traditional quilt blocks such as Churn Dash, Jacob's Ladder, Ohio Star, Bear Paw, Granny Square,...
This class WILL require outside of class homework in order to finish projects on time.
•Two types of needles:
-Sharps for hand piecing. This is really personal preference. You may want to purchase a variety pack of needles.
-Clover Gold Eye Embroidery Needles (These will be used for top quilting.)
•Two types of thread:
-Any 50 wt cotton thread in white or cream (Used for hand piecing. This thread will not be seen on the final project.)
-DMC Pearl Cotton No. 8 Thread (This thread will be used for decorative quilting and will be seen. Pick any colors you love!)
•1 yard of white or cream cotton fabric
•4-6 (or more!) fat quarters in whatever colors and patterns you wish. Make sure your colors will look good together.

**All Life Adventures activities & classes require an annual family registration. Once you’ve registered your family, to enroll in a class, pay the $10 enrollment fee and in the notes tell us the name and age/grade of the child you are enrolling. 2nd semester sign-ups will need to re-enroll their child through this process. The teacher will contact you within one week of enrollment to give class details and be available for questions.
