It is imperative that students ask questions and contact Kate in a timely fashion for any questions or concerns about their paper. Kate is available 10am-9pm for any needs the student may have.
Required Materials: computer, printer, and stapler
Course Description: Class time is NOT required for this class. Student will turn in 2 page essays by email or at Life Adventures on Tuesdays. In this English course, you will turn in 7 papers per semester. If you would like Honors English Composition, it entails weekly or 11- 2 page papers each semester.
Most students will do well as long as they take the comments on the previous week’s paper to heart and make the needed changes to their subsequent papers. If they need personalized time with the teacher, they should see the teacher before or after their Tuesday class or contact Kate MacDonald and we’ll set up individualized time.
Papers should always be written in third person (he, she, they), never first person (I, me, we, our). The audience for the papers is an adult, so professionalism in phrases, rather than slang or colloquial phrases, is required. No pictures should be included in the paper. The papers are to be stapled, double-spaced with 1 inch margins, and font comparable to Times New Roman 12pt. Headers are to be the same font and size as the text with no additional spaces. Headers should have the date in the far left, paper title centered, and the student’s name on the far right side. Below is the grading rubric and grading scale that will be used. It is expected that the student will do his own work.

Each paper will be graded on:
Grammar & Mechanics, Sentence Structure, Vocabulary,
Organization and Focus, Reasoning & Evidence, Critical Thinking, and Point of View.
NEW STUDENTS in 2nd Semester are welcomed. Since each student is learning at his or her own pace, there are no deficits to jumping in 2nd semester.
TO REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS, YOU MUST PAY THE $25 NON-REFUNDABLE REGISTRATION FEE. The remainder of the fee ($100) is due the first day of class.
