This year long course is geared to junior high students. Homework is geared to be about 2 hours per
week; reading the chapter and turning in a weekly chapter assessment.
Class time will consist of a lab (an activity or experiment or model based on the text), an explanation and
a review of the textbook (which will need to be read at home,) and review of the assignment. There will
be a Mid-term test to be given just before the Dec. break and a Final given at the end of the year over
topics covered in the related semesters. Students should be
The goals of this class:
#1 – to prepare students for the academics of high school through expectation of coming to class with
homework completed (including chapter questions completed)
#2 – become accustomed to a lecture/lab environment (including following directions and lab sheets)
#3 – learn BIOLOGY!
The review of the textbook and lab activities are the heart of this class.
Topics covered: Cells and Heredity, Bacteria to Plants, Animals, Human Biology and Health, Ecology
*The topic of evolution does come up during the course (chapter 5) and will be handled by discussing
both the perspective of Creationism, and Evolution, giving an unbiased, and non-confrontational
approach, as was handled in a previously taught class. Any parents having a concern may contact the
teacher.
** This course does include a chapter (21) on the human reproductive system. This portion of the course
will also be handled carefully and respectfully. Parents may contact the teacher with any concerns on
this topic as well.

** All classes require online family registration and enrollment. Year-long classes carry a $50 yearly enrollment fee. This enrolls your student in the class for the entire year. There is no need to re-enroll for 2nd semester. The cost of the class is due no later than the first day of each semester in an envelope labeled with your student's name & the class name with cash or a check made out to the teacher. Registration and Enrollment Fees are non-refundable.
