From Sea to Shining Sea: Jr. High American History (St. Therese Mondays Session A 9:00 a.m.) 5th-8th , $100/Semester
Step into the American story through discussion, discovery, and delight. This two-semester junior high course brings U.S. history to life through narrative, faith-informed perspective, and active student participation—helping students see how ideas, geography, and people shaped our nation.
Jr. High American History is a two-semester course, with each semester able to be taken independently. There is no prerequisite, and students may begin with either semester without difficulty.
Using From Sea to Shining Sea: The Story of America (Catholic Textbook Project), students will explore American history through storytelling, discussion, music, games, recitation, and hands-on activities. History is presented as a living narrative rather than a list of dates—helping students develop context, curiosity, and a love of learning.
Each week, students will research a small portion of the upcoming topic and present a brief snippet (approximately one paragraph or one minute) to the class, building confidence in speaking, summarizing, and contributing to group discussion.
Instruction emphasizes:
- Geography and historical cause-and-effect
- Faith-informed perspective appropriate for Catholic students
- Active participation through discussion, games, and activities
- Clear narrative understanding of American history
