Legos and Literature (Sunny Lane 10am) 5th-8th $100/Semester
An engaging class using Legos and the "I Survived" series to discover and connect with history and each other.
Welcome to Legos & Literature. In this class we will be going through the " I Survived" series, we will further our understanding and engaged in conversations in what it would have been like to be there, while building Lego recreations. What would you have done if you had been aboard the Titanic ? Do you like you could have survived the lava at Pompei ? What side of the war would you have stood ?
Students will be expected to read the selected " I Survived" book on a semi bi-weekly basis, (some we might take 3 weeks to go through). Students will also be expected to come with fun facts, a news bulletin videos they create themselves, and possible writing assignments.
This course is meant to be engaging and fun, while we learn about historical events. It is designed to get them talking about "what it would have been like" and to see themselves there. The Lego building is a method to get them moving with their hands so that words hopefully come more naturally and they feel more comfortable sharing.
Because this is a wide age range Mrs. Makinson would like each parents to reach out to set expectations. She welcomes parents to request older students having writing assignments if a challenge is needed and also strives to engage the younger crowd to know they have a voice too.
Please note books are not provided, but are at the Library, discounted on amazon, and can be found on audio in multiple locations.
Please also note that these books will cover some hard topics, please reach out with any questions.
