I Survived Jr. High (5th-8th grades) Literature

As students read the first ten I Survived books, they’ll learn practical survival concepts such as staying calm in emergencies, basic evacuation strategies, reading natural warning signs, problem-solving under pressure, teamwork, and resilience. Topics include surviving fires, natural disasters, shipwrecks, epidemics, and wilderness dangers—always approached with care, confidence-building, and historical context.

Elementary classes are ungraded and focused on engagement and curiosity, while older students are gently guided toward discussion, reflection, and cause-and-effect analysis. Assigned reading and light homework support comprehension and participation.

This 12-week (one semester) course strengthens reading skills, historical awareness, and critical thinking while helping students understand how courage, preparation, and clear thinking can make all the difference when history turns dramatic.

Through discussion, games, hands-on activities, and creative play, students will explore history through the thrilling I Survived series. This interactive literature course brings real historical events to life while introducing age-appropriate survival skills connected to each story’s setting and challenges.

This books set is for a younger reading level, 4th grade, but are about 100 pages each. That’s a lot of pages, but at an easier reading level, it’s reasonable to do around 1 per week. Feel free to adjust to your readers.
