Book Club Meets …Brain Science Jr. High Literature
Book Club Meets… Brain Science Jr. High (5th-8th grades) Literature
The lesson plans for this class are available for those outside Life Adventures for $25 from our in house author. These have worked great in our co-ops. Here's a look at what those classes look like. Contact us and tell us which lesson plans you're interested in and we'll connect you with the author.
Our six week series "Book Club Meets..." gives an experience where students explore the fascinating world of brain science through literature, hands-on activities, and creative discovery. Using stories connected to the earliest breakthroughs in neuroscience, students will uncover how scientists first began to understand how the brain works—and why it matters.
Classes include discovering and labeling the brain, brain demonstrations, songs, puzzles, mnemonics, and discussion designed to make complex ideas accessible and memorable. The historical case of Phineas Gage is our spine (or brain?). Sensitive students may find aspects of the story intense, but all the activities are age-appropriate care and focus on learning rather than shock.
This unit blends reading, science, and play to build curiosity, vocabulary, and foundational understanding of the brain—perfect for students who love books and want to see how stories and science connect.
